We are pleased to announce that Allion Labs, Inc. has officially begun offering compliance services for the IEC 62680 standard, assisting the industry in complying with the latest EU Common Charger Directive (Directive (EU) 2022/2380). According to this regulation, starting from December 28, 2024, all portable battery-powered devices and external power supplies (EPS) must use USB Type-C® connectors for charging and meet the new fundamental requirements, including the EN IEC 62680 standard. Laptops will have a transition period until April 28, 2026. These mandatory requirements apply to USB Type-C® receptacles, cables, and connectors (no captive cables will be allowed by the EU), EPS and USB PD (Power Delivery) charging protocol compliance for devices advertising more than 15W.

In support of the EU Common Charger Directive, the USB-IF (USB Implementers Forum) has launched the “USB-IF Conformity to IEC 62680 (USB) Specifications” program to help OEMs and ODMs demonstrate compliance with the EU’s requirements.

Allion Labs, recognized as an Independent Test Lab (ITL) by USB-IF and a long-term partner, will provide timely support and professional services to help customers meet the new standards. We fully understand the urgent needs of the market and industry, and therefore, Allion is ready to provide the necessary compliance services immediately.

The USB-IF Conformity to IEC 62680 (USB) Specifications is the only official compliance program that verifies adherence to the IEC 62680 standard. Any unauthorized laboratory conducting IEC 62680 tests and issuing reports will be at risk of copyright infringement. Therefore, we recommend that all relevant manufacturers choose official compliance channels to ensure their products meet the latest regulatory requirements.

Stay tuned to Allion for updates. We will continue to provide you with the latest industry information and professional services to help you navigate the upcoming regulatory changes smoothly.
